Born in 1897 number 3530 53rd Battery 14th Brigade Field Artillery,Frank Wormald enlisted at the age of 18 and was an eye - witness to the final moments in the life of Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen.
Here are links to the sound track that he recorded for the relatives of his friend, Gunner 3801 Robert Buie. His recording has been cut into manageable pieces to suit the Internet.

Frank, now deceased, was 92 when he recorded this tape and claimed that his memories of the 21st April 1918 were as clear as crystal. There are no reasons to doubt this. This is his story. It is perhaps the only eye-witness recording of the events of April 21 1918 publicly available. My thanks to Mr. Max Buie and family for access and their support.

The death of the Red Baron was described at the time as being perhaps the single most significant event in bringing to conclusion the horrors of WW1. For that reason it is an historically important event.
